Why This Bottle?
Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers are a going concern located in North Vancouver, just across the pond from us. Arguably known better for their beer, these guys decided to branch out and try their hand at distillation. And I for one am glad they did! Mediterranean-styled, but BC home-grown to the core, the unique botanicals in the gin delight the senses and ignite the imagination. And at a regular price of $37 it will do so without breaking the bank. One of the best value craft-styled gins in our market today.
Strath Panel Notes
The nose was awash with herbs and a powdery sweetness. Thyme and kaffir lime danced playfully with a light dusting icing sugar. It made us dream of a savoury Turkish delight…
The palate was less sweet, and even a touch bitter. It was reminiscent of accidentally biting into a big rich olive, and just grazing a bit of the pit.
Serving suggestion:A big dirty martini garnished with a caperberry.
Will It G&T? Tonic brings rosemary to the spotlight and brings out many of the sweet notes that were previously only present in the aroma. Balances very well with tonic, and would be great with a tayberry as a garnish.
