When most folks consider a wine from New Zealand, 9 times out of 10 it's a Sauvignon Blanc. And without a doubt, Sauvignon Blanc is the king of New Zealand. But there's more that this wine growing region produces....so much more. This Pinot Gris comes from the artisanal wine cellars of Astrolabe. Astrolabe is a winemaker brand, and Simon Waghorn makes the wines to suit his personal palate. Simons crafts his Astrolabe wines with precision and harmony, capturing Marlborough’s intense fruit and leaving the connoisseur to discover the measured layering of flavors and different dimensions as they savor each glass.
Cameron Douglas, a Master Sommelier from New Zealand, rated this wine a 4.5/5, and had this to say:
“The 2019 vintage was grown principally (60 per cent) in the Awatere Valley, but also in the Wairau Valley and at Kekerengu. Mostly hand-harvested, it is a bright, light lemon/green, full-bodied wine, with good intensity of vibrant, citrusy, peachy, slightly spicy flavours, a touch of complexity, and a lingering, basically dry (4 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Drink now or cellar ”
